Show up at some stretches of beach along the coast and you’ll be shoo’d away. At others, you can walk or bike in, but there won’t be parking in beach lots. Some areas have yet to see any restrictions set by officials.

Changes along the coast about what’s allowed and what’s not are happening fast this week as official grapple with the warm holiday weekend coming up and concerns about the spread of coronavirus. Here’s a quick list that we’ll be updating as changes occur:

Los Angeles County, including Long Beach: L.A. County Department of Public Health has ordered all county beaches, piers, parking lots, beach bike paths on the sand portion of the shore, and beach access points temporarily closed to the public from Friday, July 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 6. State Parks will mirror those closures in Los Angeles, including Leo Carrillo State Park, Malibu Lagoon State Beach, Malibu Pier, Point Dume and Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach.

State Parks beaches: Bolsa Chica, Huntington State, Crystal Cove, Doheny, San Clemente and San Onofre state beaches will have parking lot closures through the holiday weekend starting on Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5. This may change if Gov. Gavin Newsom elects to mirror what local agencies are doing, like he announced for Los Angeles County on Wednesday, July 1.

Seal Beach: At 6 p.m. on Friday, July 3, all beach parking lots (1st Street, 8th Street and 10th Street) will be closed. At 10 p.m. Friday, all Seal Beach beaches, the pier and its restrooms, the tot lot playground, volleyball courts and other beach amenities will also be closed. These areas are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, July 5, at sunrise. However, the city may decide later to keep these areas closed until further notice.

Sunset Beach/Huntington Beach: The Huntington Beach City Council voted  to close all city beaches, Huntington Harbor beaches, Sunset Beach and the pier on July 4. The city manager can opt to close on July 3 and July 5 if necessary. The bike path will remain open. State Beaches will have parking restrictions, but are still planned to be open.

Newport Beach: The city will shut down beaches, most beach parking lots and the pier on July 4, as well as July 5. Crystal Cove State Park is still planned to be open, but with parking restrictions in place.

Laguna Beach: Closed on the Fourth of July, and  if needed, the closures can be extended to include July 3 and July 5.

Dana Point: The city has made no announcement about changes for city-operated beaches. Doheny State Beach will have parking restrictions.

San Clemente: The city of San Clemente has made no announcement about changes for city-operated beaches. San Clemente State Beach will have parking restrictions.

County beaches: Strands, Salt Creek, Capistrano and Poche beaches have had no official changes announced.

San Diego: State beaches will close parking lots, but city and county run beaches will remain open.
