HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana closes out the regular season at home with a four-game Southland Conference series against Houston Baptist at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday and a single game at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Lions (28-20, 20-15 SLC) will honor their senior and graduating players in a pregame ceremony prior to Saturday's series finale. All four games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The entire series against HBU (12-36, 9-25 SLC) can also be heard in the Hammond area on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network – KSLU 90.9 FM – in addition to online at https://ift.tt/2NmN61W and via both the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
Other options to follow the action this weekend include live statistics or the @LionUpBaseball Twitter account. Links to audio, video and stats are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern dropped all three games it played this past weekend at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (24-27, 20-14 SLC). The series finale was rained out Sunday and will not be made up.
With the Southland using a points system (Win = 3 pts; Cancellation = 1 pt; Loss = 0 pts) to determine both the regular-season champion and tournament seeding, the Lions (61 points) find themselves in fourth place behind New Orleans (69 points), Abilene Christian (68 points) and A&M-Corpus Christi (62 points).
The Privateers (28-24, 23-17 SLC) have completed their conference slate and will be at Oklahoma State this weekend. ACU (31-18, 22-12 SLC) host Stephen F. Austin (19-28, 16-19 SLC) in a four-game series. The Islanders travel to Northwestern State (27-24, 20-16 SLC) for a conference series against the Demons (60 points).
Southeastern is still very much in the title race, but will have to take care of business against the Huskies in addition to needing some help from its conference foes.
Tyler Finke (.320), Evan Keller (.311) and Christian Garcia (.309) are the Lions' leading hitters. Jacob Burke paces the squad in extra-base hits (11 doubles, two triples, six home runs) and stolen bases (22). Preston Faulkner leads the squad in RBIs (42) and is tied for the team lead in home runs (6). Eight different players have driven in at least 20 runs this season.
Junior right-hander Will Warren (6-2, 2.95) takes the ball Thursday in the series opener for Southeastern against senior right-hander Jaime Ramirez Jr. (3-7, 5.17).
Freshman right-hander Brennan Stuprich (6-2, 2.22) draws the starting assignment in the first game of Friday's doubleheader. HBU will counter with sophomore right-hander Jared Burch (2-3, 7.59). Freshman right-hander Will Kinzeler (4-3, 3.90) heads to the bump for Southeastern in the second game of the doubleheader while the Huskies plan to start sophomore right-hander Daxton Tinker (1-4, 4.94).
Neither team has announced its starting pitcher for Saturday's regular-season finale.
Brennan Bales (.361), Brandon Bena (.277) and Jake Miller (.265) are HBU's leading hitters. Bena paces the team with five home runs and 23 RBIs. The Huskies have three players with double-digit stolen bases this season, including Lane Botkin with a team-high 20 steals.
HBU is coming off a split series at home against Central Arkansas (21-26, 16-20 SLC).
