Mayor James Davis has announced that the Mayor G. Thomas DiDomenico Municipal Pool will open for the summer season beginning on May 29. The pool will be open through Labor Day, Sept. 6, weather and public health permitting.

The pool is on West 16th Street, west of Avenue A, on the upper level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park.

From May 29 to June 20, the pool will open, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekends only.

From June 25 to Aug. 13, the pool will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The pool will be closed to the public on those days from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to allow City Day Camps access. The pool will open 10:30 a.m. to p.m., on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

From Aug. 14 to Sept. 6, the pool will be open 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday through Saturday.

No out-of-towners

Only Bayonne residents are permitted in the pool; out-of-town guests are prohibited. After-hour parties will be available only to Bayonne non-profit organizations. Availability will be limited, and private parties are prohibited.

Birthday parties are limited to two hours. Slots include 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; 1 to 3 p.m.; and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Availability will be limited. Residents can reserve a slot by calling 201-858-6159.

Senior swim is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The daily admission fees for this year will be: $1 for children 12 years old and under; $3 for 13 to 64 years old; and $1 for seniors 65 and above. A city of Bayonne ID is required to enter the facility for the normal admission fee.

Get a city ID

Bayonne residents who do not have a city of Bayonne ID will be charged $5, if they can provide proof of Bayonne residency.

City of Bayonne Resident IDs can be obtained at the Council Chambers in City Hall, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee is $5. Bring two proofs of residency.

The city offers seasonal passes for families of four for $200, including parents and or guardians and children under age 17. Each additional child is $15.

Seasonal passes for individual children 12 years and under cost $25; people 13 to 64 years, $100; and seniors 65 and above, $40.

Students can present a Bayonne school ID and will be charged the regular admission fee. Anyone with a current driver’s license or non-driver motor vehicle ID card that shows a Bayonne address will be admitted for $5.

Monitor city sources

The pool will close in the event of inclement weather. Pool patrons can confirm pool closings by calling 201-471-7590, by visiting  www.bayonnerec.com, or by visiting the city of Bayonne’s Facebook page.

For safety reasons, no flotation devices are allowed. That means no swimmies, tubes, puddle jumpers, or similar products.
