New Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold will get an early chance to face his old team when he and his new teammates host the New York Jets to open the 2021 NFL season on Sept. 12.
The NFL, having released opponents months ago, is putting dates to matchups Wednesday for the upcoming season.
The Jets and Panthers will meet at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. in a game slated for CBS.
Carolina will play a 17-game schedule with eight home games and nine road games. Preseason games are also slated to return with the Panthers hosting two and playing one on the road.
Carolina's schedule features the NFC South slate as well as contests against the NFC East and AFC East.

Darnold, 23, joined the Panthers in the offseason, and the Jets selected QB Zach Wilson out of BYU with the second pick in the NFL Draft. In addition to a new quarterback, the Jets are led by a new head coach, Robert Saleh.
The season kicks off with Thursday Night Football on NBC Sept. 9 when the Dallas Cowboys meet the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
