MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The IUPUI men's golf team will finally open the spring schedule this week when the Jaguars compete in the Bash at the Beach, presented by FBC Mortgage and hosted by Appalachian State. The two-day, 54-hole event will open the Jaguars' spring slate as head coach Jamie Broce has a largely new look squad for the 2021 spring season.

IUPUI was picked to finish sixth in the Horizon League Preseason Polls, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Given the abundance of new faces, even Broce is unsure of what the spring holds.

The Jags return veterans Keegan McCullough, Matthew Baxter, Preston Nanthavong and Enrico Rissi Miozzo from last season with Baxter and McCullough leading the charges. Now in his third season, Baxter has played 39 career rounds and owns a 75.97 scoring average. He was the Jaguars last top player last season, posting a 73.36 stroke average in 11 rounds. McCullough was just behind him in his first season with the program, notching a 74.00 stroke average in 15 rounds.

QUOTABLE: "I think we've got a pretty good team. We've got some freshmen who can play. Some of the older guys like Keegan and Bax have earned their stripes and we know what we can do. But we've got some young guys who can really play who I think are going to surprise some folks. And they're only going to continue to get better," Broce said earlier this season in regards to his freshman class.

FORMAT: The 5-count-4 format will consist of 36 holes on Monday (Mar. 15) and a final round on Tuesday (Feb. 16). Tee times are at 8:00 a.m. off hole Nos. 1 and 10.

THE COURSE: Surf Golf and Beach Club will play at par-72, 6,800 yards this week. The course was originally opened in 1960 and was fully renovated in 2016, converting from Bentgrass to Champion. It's a George Cobb design and earned a 5-star rating from Trip Advisor.

THE FIELD: The 11-team field will consist of Appalachian State, Florida A&M, Jacksonville State, Loyola Chicago, North Carolina A&T, NC Central, St. Francis, UConn, Valparaiso and William & Mary.

LINEUP:
    No. 1 - Keegan McCullough (74.00 career average / 15 career rounds)
    No. 2 - Matthew Baxter (75.97 career average / 39 career rounds)
No. 3 - Brock Aten (collegiate debut)
No. 4 - Josh Yoder (collegiate debut)
No. 5 - Taylor Gardner (collegiate debut)

LAST TIME OUT: IUPUI's final tournament last season was the Orlando Invitational where the Jaguars finished seventh off 11 teams at 941 (315-313-313). McCullough tied for 13th among the 69-player field at 228 (78-79-71) at Mission Inn's El Campeon in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

NEXT UP: IUPUI will compete in the NKU Spring Classic at Lassing Pointe in Union, Ky., on Mar. 29-30.
