The grand opening for the new Albemarle, N.C., Ashley HomeStore is planned for mid-to-late July.
ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Broad River Retail, a leading Ashley HomeStore licensee, is planning to open a new store in Albemarle, N.C., later this summer.
The Ashley HomeStore location, which is slated to open in mid-to-late July, will be 23,500 square feet and is located off NC Hwy. 24/27 in a former Office Max location.
“The location is basically the start of retail in Albemarle off the main thoroughfare road,” said Charlie Malouf, Broad River Retail president and CEO. “We recently opened a store in the town of Wilson, N.C., and have moved into several other smaller towns. The stores do well with bringing the concept closer to the neighborhoods. This town is considered part of the Charlotte metro area which is a high growth market, and it’s an A+ retail location.”
Malouf said that Broad River has gone into Office Max locations in the past and is comfortable retrofitting a store of this size. The Broad River team saw the store in Albemarle in the summer of 2017 and started planning for the new location then. Malouf said these new locations happen with a lot of careful planning.
“You may have heard the quote that the right time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the second best time is today,” Malouf said. “If you equate that to retail stores, the best time to be shopping for a location was two years ago, but the second best time is today.”
The company opened four new stores last year. So far this year, the new Spartanburg, S.C., location opened in February, with plans for the grand reopening of the Gastonia, N.C., location over Memorial Day weekend. Those will be followed by opening of the replacement store in Augusta, Ga., then the new Asheville, N.C., store in June, followed by this new Albemarle location and the new location in Anderson, S.C., set to open in August.
Malouf said Broad River plans to bring on about a dozen new people for the Albemarle location.
