Maya Rudolph returns to host for a second time with Jack Harlow as the musical guest.
Saturday Night Live returned this evening after a month-long break, kicking off the night with a game show knocking on vacationers partying in Miami even as COVID-19 cases surge.
Former SNL cast member Maya Rudolph, who serves as this week's host, took a different route for the cold open where she often portrays vice president Kamala Harris for political sketches. This time around, she hosted a game show called "Snatched, Vaxed or Waxed" in which contestants guess if a contestant has a "right and tight" body, some "antibody-ody-odys," or is "smooth like a seal."
Knocking on the growing party crowds taking over Miami Beach, which often break curfews and have to be dispersed by law enforcement, Rudolph said of the pandemic, "We're so close to the end, let's ruin it!"
Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett and Chris Redd played as contestants, with Redd fervently noting he was vaccinated "over two years ago" thus more than ready to play. Chloe Fineman, Ego Nwodim and Heidi Gardner played female guests on the show. Fineman's character joked she was "here in Miami to get COVID or get laid." As for Gardner's character, she noted she can't wear a mask "because it irritates my cold sores."
Rudolph returns to the variety sketch series for the second time as a host, with Jack Harlow as the musical guest.
