RUSTON, La. – The top ranked Arkansas Razorbacks didn’t need extras innings no Saturday as the cruised to a game two victory against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Arkansas went to work quickly in Ruston as they scored two runs in the top of the first and would not let up. The Hogs clinched the series win at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on Saturday.
The Razorbacks needed a late home run by Jalen Battles on Friday night to win game one. Luckily for Arkansas this one wasn’t even close. The Razorbacks continue to win early in the 2021 with a 12-0 record which is the best start to a season under Dave Van Horn and second best start in school history. Going back to last season’s Covid-19 shortened season in 2020 the Hogs have won 16 straight games.
HITTING
Brady Slavens got the Razorback scoring mirage off to a quick stop in the top of the first inning. Slavens drove Matt Goodheart and Cayden Wallace home with a two run double to left field.
The Hogs scored two runs in the fourth, which included another Wallace home run. That shot gave him his second solo home in as many days. The Bulldogs would score their only run in the bottom of the fourth but Arkansas extend their lead in the next half inning.
Christian Franklin would score off a Slavens’ double to right field. That run would make the score 5-1. Slavens’ was very good at the plate today going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
During the top of the eighth, Arkansas would extend their lead again with two more runs when wild pitches were thrown by the Bulldogs. Wallace also had a good day going 3-for-4, scoring twice and batted in two extra runs.
PITCHING
Zebulon Vermillion had a terrific eight inning pitching performance. He allowed only three hits, three walks, two strikeouts and only one run versus the Bulldogs.
Kole Ramage pitched the final inning of the ballgame, striking out one to help Arkansas’ to a series-clinching win.
NEXT OUTING
The Razorbacks will return to the diamond one more time in Ruston on Sunday. The series finale will begin at 11 A.M. due to rain in the forecast. With a win tomorrow, Arkansas would have their third series sweep of the 2021 season.
