In an unusual NFL offseason, restructuring contracts is a popular option for NFL General Managers. Tennessee Titans’ General Manager Jon Robinson has yet to do so.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady helped the Buccaneers free up $19.3M in cap space.
The belief is Tom Brady didn’t ask for a raise even after winning another Super Bowl. His original deal was two years, $50 million plus incentives. This tacks on another year through 2022, plus voidables designed to help the #Bucs‘ cap and try to keep their core together.

Kansas City Chiefs’ superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes reportedly will do the same. The Chiefs will restructure his contract to open up $17M in cap space.

It kind of makes you wonder if any Tennessee Titans would be willing to do the same.
The Titans have an intense offseason ahead with a boatload of free agents of their own and a massive need at edge rusher. It would be beneficial if Robinson could restructure a contract or two.
One Titans player threw his name into the hat for a potential restructure. Titans offensive lineman Rodger Saffold tweeted that he would love to see the team thrive when responding to a tweet about him possibly restructuring.

Saffold signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2019. His deal was a four-year deal worth $44M with $22.5M guaranteed.
The 32-year-old guard has a $12.3M cap hit for 2021.
Restructuring Saffold would be ideal for the present. It would open up room for Tennessee to make much-needed moves. However, restructuring requires moving money around, and it could hurt the Titans in later years.
Time is ticking fast for the Tennessee Titans to decide who they want to restructure if they go that route. NFL Free Agency begins on Wednesday, March 17th at 3 pm central time.
However, the Titans do have around $16M in cap space. If Jon Robinson feels that’s enough for him to make some magic happen, then the Tennessee Titans are set.
