MINNEAPOLIS – Angus Flanagan made his PGA Tour debut, while Tom Lehman was the top Golden Gopher in the clubhouse as round one of the 3M Open was played Thursday at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn.Lehman shot an even-par 71, while Flanagan made his debut with a 2-over 72, and Minnesota alum Erik Van Rooyen finished one shot behind Flanagan after carding a 73.
Believed to be the first Gopher to ever play in a PGA Tour event while still in school, Flanagan began his day with a bogey on his first hole but notched birdies on the fifth and eighth holes to move into the red. A bogey on No. 9 had him go out at an even-par 35, while he slipped to 1-over with another bogey on No. 11. He finished tied for 120th as a result of a fourth bogey on his 18th and final hole.

"I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous the first few holes," Flanagan said after his round. "I didn't really play too bad, I just couldn't get the ball in the hole.
"But overall I was pretty pleased with the way I got the ball around. I wasn't really ‑‑ I wasn't hitting my driver too well. I was slightly pulling it and I never pull my driver, so that was kind of ‑‑ it was a bit weird doing that. But at the end of the day, 73, I'm not too disheartened by it, especially for my first round playing out here. I'm pretty happy."

A three-time All-American with Minnesota, Lehman began the day with a bogey on No. 10 but rebounded with birdies on No. 12 and No. 17 to make the turn at 1-under. After bogeying the second hole, he got back in the red with a birdie on the par-5 sixth, while a bogey on his final hole of the day left him tied for 82nd.
Playing in the same pairing as Lehman, Van Rooyen is tied for 133rd. Even-par through four holes of play after a birdie on No. 12 and bogey on No. 13, Van Rooyen ran into trouble after carding an 8 on the par-4 14th. He didn't let it weigh him down though, posting consecutive birdies on the next two holes. Making the turn at two-over, he posted his fourth birdie of the day on No. 4 but ended with bogeys on two of the final three holes.
Round two sees Flanagan teeing off on No. 10 at 8:50 a.m., while Lehman and Van Rooyen go off the front nine at 1:20 p.m. Golf Channel will have coverage beginning at 1:30 p.m.
