CONCORD — A brawl that broke out amongst a large group of teens at Sunvalley mall Saturday afternoon was quickly broken up by responding police officers but nevertheless compelled the shopping to center to close early, according to Concord police.

Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. for reports that a “large gathering” of roughly 50 teens had broken out into multiple fights, Lt. Robert Garcia said.

Garcia said the officers’ arrival prompted the altercations to dissipate, and that the officers were mostly involved in helping shepherd mall patrons outside after mall management decided to shut down for the day.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests were made, Garcia said.

“It started breaking up when we got there, so we didn’t have to do much beyond having our presence there,” he said.

Garcia added that there was no immediate indication that the fights involved any kind of specific rivalries, gang or otherwise.
