FRANKENMUTH, MI - Frankenmuth School District’s List Elementary School will close for three days starting Monday, Sept. 28 after multiple staff members were potentially exposed to COVID-19, according to a letter from the district’s superintendent.
The Saginaw County Health Department directed the school to close from Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 30, during which time staff will be quarantined and workers will disinfect and clean exposed areas, according to Superintendent Adele Martin. The health department doesn’t believe the exposures have led to any cases among students, Martin’s letter states.
“The status of this situation is fluid, and we are monitoring it closely," Martin said in her letter.
Kindergarten through 4th grade students will continue classes online during the closures. The district is operating a hybrid class schedule, with students cohorted into “red” and “gray” groups that attend in-person and online classes on alternating days, according to the district’s website.
The preschool and “Eagle Express” childcare will remain open.
Martin asked parents to watch their kids for COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, runny nose, cough, shortness of breath and sore throat, and encouraged them to contact a healthcare provider if any develop. She also encouraged the community to practice the “3 Ws”: “Wash your hands, Wear a mask, and Watch your distance,” to slow community spread.
The school district could not immediately be reached for comment.
