For almost 11 months after they signed a contract to open their business in Cypress, new Cinnaholic owners Daniela Diaz and her husband Héctor Figueroa have finally announced their grand opening set for Friday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.

“We’re ready to open on Friday. We’re excited for ourselves and Cypress,” said co-owner Daniela Diaz.

Cinnaholic is leasing a 1,237-square-foot space in Fairfield Town Center between Mod Pizza and the GNC store. The eatery offers their special spin on gourmet cinnamon rolls and has been featured on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank.”

Owner Daniela Diaz said they will begin with 20 employees, about twice what they announced earlier in the year.

“We have already hired our staff and begin training on Monday,” she said. Monday will be a baking day at the store.

The products are 100 percent dairy and lactose-free, egg-free, cholesterol-free, and considered vegan as well. They boast more than 20 unique frosting flavors and numerous toppings.

The journey to get the doors open hasn’t been easy for the couple.

“This has been tough,” she said. The family purchased the franchise in December 2019 paying their franchise fee and has been faced with numerous setbacks and delays with the pandemic.

“We love our concept and the restaurant, but it’s been difficult,” Diaz said.

They were originally scheduled to open in April earlier in the year, but the COVID-19 shutdowns squashed those plans.

They were finally able to negotiate a contract with their landlords in July. Since then, the store has been under construction. Furnishings and equipment were delivered in October, but they still weren’t ready for a Halloween opening.

“It was hard for us to find the best option for us to invest in a business,” she said as they searched last year for a viable investment.

“When we found Cinnaholic, we fell in love with the brand.”

She said they wanted something that would make people happy and a bakery worked for them.

“When we found out they were open to a store in Cypress, we decided that was the best option for us,” Diaz said.

She wanted to do something that she would love and not feel like it was work.

“For me, I love baking. The investment was the best thing for my life,” she said proudly.

The equipment is in. The shelves are stocked. Training will happen on Monday. They’re ready.

“We will have a grand opening on Friday with a DJ spinning tunes, and some giveaways too,” she said.

Diaz announced the first 50 people in line would pay only $1 for their cinnamon rolls with the topping of their choice. (Limit one $1 roll per person.)

“We’ll have a lot of other surprises. Come and see what we have for you,” she said.

She can’t wait to try one of her own favorites, the Cookie Monster.

“I love chocolate and so that’s one I like to eat,” the owner said. It has a layer of cream cheese frosting, another layer with cookie dough, and topped with chocolate chips and chocolate frosting.

The store is located at 28290 Northwest Freeway, Ste. H-11 in Fairfield Town Center.

Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
