AUSTIN, Texas – A pair of Texas women's golf seniors, Agathe Laisne and Kaitlyn Papp, are among 20 additional amateurs that have earned entry into the 75th U.S. Women's Open Championship, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced Thursday. The Longhorn duo both currently holds spots in the top-20 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), with Laisne ranked No. 12 and Papp ranked No. 19.
"What a great moment for Agathe and Kaitlyn," Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. "This opportunity is a result of continuous great golf over the last two years. I'm extremely proud of them both and particularly excited that they will represent the University of Texas within the state."
Laisne was a WGCA first-team All-American, the Big 12 Individual Champion and Big 12 Player of the Year in 2019. The Paris, France native was an Augusta National Women's Amateur Participant, an Arnold Palmer Cup international team member last year as well. She is also a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times.
Papp, an Austin native, is a three-time All-American and twice has earned All-Big 12 honors in her career thus far. She was the 2018 Big 12 Player of the Year and has been a watch-list candidate for the ANNIKA Award in each of the past three seasons. Papp is a three-time Palmer Cup selection for the United States and holds the Texas school record for career stroke average at 71.91. She shot 74-77 in two rounds at the U.S. Open last year in Charleston, South Carolina.
The 75th U.S. Women's Open Championship will be hosted by Champions Golf Club in Houston from Dec. 10-13.
