CHICAGO — Texans veteran running back David Johnson's stay on the COVID-19 reserve list is expected to be short-term.

Johnson was determined to be a close contact as testing was conducted for him and his family. He has to miss a total of five days and is expected to be activated this week, according to coach Romeo Crennel.

"It was close contact, that's why he was on the list, "Crennel said following a 36-7 loss to the Chicago Bears. "And hopefully he'll be back because it's a five-day deal, so he should be back getting ready for the next game."

With Johnson out, the Texans rushed for 108 yards with rarely-used reserve Buddy Howell rushing for a team-high 42 yards on 11 carries as Duke Johnson started and gained just 26 yards on eight carries.

"You know, when you lose your ability guys, then you try to replace them as best you can," Crennel said. "Like Buddy came in and did a pretty decent job running the ball today, so that's what we have to do.
