PORTLAND – The Portland State men's tennis team will return to the court on Thursday and Saturday after nearly a three-week break in action. The Vikings will take on Boise State in Boise on Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by a final Big Sky matchup with Idaho in Moscow on Saturday.

The Vikings are 7-7 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in Conference play.

LAST TIME OUT

Thursday will mark the Vikings first match in the month of April as they last took the court in California at the end of March. They played two duals in The Golden State, beginning with a 7-0 loss to a tough UC Irvine team followed by a close 4-3 loss at Point Loma.

KEY STATISTICS

  • PSU's 3-0 start in Big Sky play is the best start to Conference action in program history
  • Through 14 matches the Vikings are 44-40 in singles and 18-22 in doubles
  • Senior Nikola Dimitrijevic leads the Vikings with an 8-6 record in singles action, most of those wins coming at the three spot
  • Tommy Edwards and Matteo Fortini hold a 7-5 record as a duo heading into the weekend, they are 2-0 against Conference opponents, with one match going unfinished
  • Sam Roberts ranks seventh in the Big Sky with a .700 winning percentage in singles (7-3)
  • Dimitrijevic, Nils Plutat, and Sam Roberts are three of six Big Sky players to have a 3-0 record in Conference singles action

EDWARDS RECORD WATCH

In a No. 2 singles win over Seattle on March 19, Tommy Edwards tied Nathan Boniel at 45 wins for the program's all-time career singles win record. A singles victory against BSU or Idaho this weekend will put Edwards at the top of the list.

The senior is also one win away from matching the program record for all-time Big Sky doubles wins. Edwards will tie Ian Risenhoover at 20 if he earns a victory against Idaho on Saturday.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS

The Broncos will enter Thursday's dual with an impressive 13-3 overall record. Boise State has lost two of its last three following a ten-match win streak. BSU has landed five Mountain West Men's Tennis Players of the Week so far this season.

Thursday will be just the third meeting between the two teams, as Boise State leads the all-time series 2-0. The Broncos earned their most recent victory over PSU 7-0 in 2019.

IDAHO VANDALS

The Vandals sit one spot behind the Vikings in the Northern Division of the Big Sky rankings. They are 6-5 overall and 2-1 in Conference action, their one loss coming against Montana. Idaho will enter Saturday following a close 4-3 win at Montana State on April 11.

The Vandals lead the all-time series 14-1, defeating PSU in 2019 5-2.
