Editor’s Note: This story was updated late this afternoon after Ryan Preece finalized travel plans. An earlier version reported that Preece was still examining his travel options surrounding participating in the event at Monadnock.
NASCAR Cup Series driver and former Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece has been adamant since late last year that 2021 would be a season where if there was a chance for him to race a Modified somewhere he would do everything in his power to get there.
He’s trying to prove that once again this weekend.
Preece is on the entry list for Friday’s Whelen Modified Tour NAPA Spring Sizzler 150 at Stafford Speedway.
Now he’s also added a second New England stop for the weekend.
The Tri-Track Open Modified Series is scheduled to kick off its 2021 season Saturday at Monadnock Speedwy in Winchester, N.H. and Preece will be in the lineup for that event too.
Preece’s full-time job in the Cup Series with JTG Daugherty Racing will take him to Kansas Speedway for a 3 pm. race Sunday.
After spending the morning and afternoon working out the travel logistics, Preece confirmed his intentions to compete at Monadnock at about 4:30 today.
“I’m going,” Preece said. “Looking forward to getting back there.”
Preece plans for an aggressive schedule with his Modified this year away from the Cup Series. He kicked things off running in the Tour Type Modified division at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in February at New Smryna (Fla.) Speedway. He won a a Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams event on April 3 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway and he was 11th in the Whelen Modified Tour season opener on April 8 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
In addition to various Whelen Modified Tour and Tri-Track Open Modified Series appearances for 2021, Preece also said he plans to try to run all the Open Modified 80 events at Stafford and the all the Wednesday night Outlaw Modified Open events at Thompson Speedway.
“Fortunately we have Call Before You Dig 811 as a big help this year on those Open 80’s at Stafford and the Open shows at Thompson and the Tri-Track stuff” Preece said. “Having them on board supporting has made a lot of these things possible to do.”
