CHICAGO – DePaul track and field will be in action across the midwest this weekend, competing in both the Marquette Invitational and the Bob Harris Open at Notre Dame. The Blue Demons will send the bulk of the squad north to Milwaukee while eight student-athletes will compete at Notre Dame.
At the Marquette Invitational, DePaul's Tori Carroll will kick off the action as one of four Blue Demons in the women's long jump. Carroll has assembled a strong spring outdoor season and is coming off of a personal-best performance in the long jump. Carroll has progressed quickly in the event, logging a 6.04m mark at last weekend's Clark Wood Open.
On the track, DePaul will deploy strong groups in both the men's and women's 1500m run. Olivia Borowiak, who set a school record in the 5000m earlier this season, will run at 4:45pm on Saturday while Shane Knanishu will be one of three Blue Demons in the men's side of the event. Knanishu set a personal record in the event back at the Tom Botts Invitational on April 9.
At the Bob Harris Open at Notre Dame, the action begins for the Blue Demons at 12:45 p.m with the 4x100m relay. Kyle Mastrangeli, who set a school record in the 100m dash this spring, will run in the DePaul relay and participate in the 100m dash at 2:30.
On the women's side, Kiersten Walker will run the 400m at 2:50. Walker won the event at the Clark Wood Open and set a personal record in the 200m last weekend, finishing third.
DePaul returns to action after battling soggy weather conditions at the Clark Wood Open last weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. The Blue Demons logged a number of victories, including wins by Kiersten Walker and Mastrangeli in the 400m and 100m, respectively on Saturday.
The Blue Demons have added a meet to the schedule for next weekend. DePaul will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pacesetter Sports Invitational on Friday, May 7. The meet will be the final competition for the Blue Demons before taking part in the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 14 and 15 in Geneva, Ohio.
