Women’s Golf in Thick of Leaderboard to Open Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – In the opening round of the Big South Women's Golf Championship at the Patriot at Grand Harbor, Longwood women's golf ended the first round in seventh on Wednesday afternoon.
All five Lancers cracked 80, led by Emma Landis and Diana Domenech's 76 (+4). As a team, the Lancers ended at 306 (+18), trailing fourth place by just three strokes—in the current format of the Big South Tournament, the top four teams in stroke play after three rounds will advance to match play to determine the team champion.
Landis and Domenech currently sit at T-21st on the leaderboard through 18 holes—Landis is tied for the fourth-most birdies in the field with four, while Domenech is tied for seventh with 12 pars to accompany her birdie.
Grace Huffman matched Landis with four birdies, firing a 77 (+5) to rank T-25th at the end of her first round. Annabelle Jennings matched the mark, tallying two birdies and no worse than a bogey to close at 77 (+5) as well. Bobbi Uhl followed at 78 (+6), ranking T-31st with 36 holes to play.
Longwood's freshman pair of Landis and Jennings were lethal on par threes in the first round, playing them a combined one-under par. Grace Huffman ranked tied for second on par-five scoring at 4.25 (-3). As a team, the Lancers finished with averages of 3.35 (+7) on par threes, 4.36 (+18) on par fours, and 4.95 (-1) on par fives.
Round two of the Big South Championship will kick off on Thursday, April 15 at 8 a.m. as the Lancers will look to ascend the leaderboard.
