“Saturday Night Live” returned for its final episode before Tuesday’s election, with Jim Carrey as Joe Biden reading viewers a scary Halloween election story.
“Greetings, America. It’s a spooky time, filled with demons and darkness. Also, it’s Halloween,” Carrey said. “For some Trump voters, it’s the only day they’ll wear a mask.”
Carrey’s story had a “Night Before Christmas” cadence to it, telling a rhyming tale of losing the election to Donald Trump. As Carrey reassured himself that the election was “in the bag,” the ghost of Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) showed up to offer words of warning about the possibility of a stolen election.
“Come on! No one will dare. I will be sworn in fair and square,” Carrey said. “All the votes will be accounted for.”
“Just like Al Gore,” McKinnon retorted.
The cold open didn’t feature Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump for the first time this season, but Maya Rudolph returned to reprise her role as vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris, with the running mates taking turns sharing lines from the Halloween tale.
“Whatever happens, we’ll be OK,” Carrey said.
“Our nation will endure. We will fight another day,” Rudolph replied.
“I’m sure it will be peaceful, no matter who has won,” Carrey continued.
“Though it’s never a good sign when Walmart stops selling guns,” Rudolph concluded.
