TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide women's soccer team looks to bring back its powered offense to get back into the win column against the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT on SECN+ with the fellow Southeastern Conference West foes.
Last Time Out
- Alabama (1-2-1, 1-2-1) dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to the SEC favorite, No. 3 Arkansas, last Sunday at home.
- From the opening whistle, Arkansas played directly at Alabama challenging every possession and every pass, and through the first 20 minutes held a 4-1 advantage in the shots department.
- The Razorbacks broke through with a corner kick opportunity in the 27th minute. After Nayeli Perez sent a curving ball into the far side of the field, Kayla McKeon connected to give them the early lead.
- The game-tying strike came in the 40th minute when sophomore Macy Clem redirected the ball up and over the keeper to the top left corner of the net to register her first goal of the season and fifth collegiate goal.
- Play remained quiet for much of the second half as Alabama settled in, but still struggled to find openings on offense, sending both squads into overtime.
- Less than a minute into extended regulation, Ava Rankersley struck and found the golden goal on the team's first shot in overtime.
Scouting Ole Miss
- The Rebels (1-3-0, 1-3-0) will be playing its second match of the week after suffering a 1-0 defeat in double overtime against the Auburn Tigers on Tuesday.
- Ole Miss was predicted to finish eight in the league in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Led by forward Channing Foster, the Rebels return nine players from its primary starting lineup in 2019, including 25 of 32 goals scored and 18 of 21 assists from a season ago.
- Goalkeeper Ashley Orkus sits right behind McKinley Crone in league saves at No. 3 having tallied 25 stops on the year.
Series with the Rebels
- Sunday's match-up marks the 27th meeting in series history between the Tide and the Ole Miss Rebels.
- Alabama trails the all-time series 8-17-1 with the fellow SEC West foes.
- However, the last three meetings have been split with Alabama taking home a win from Oxford in 2017, and Ole Miss taking the three points in Tuscaloosa in 2018 and the two squads playing to a 1-1 draw in Oxford a season ago.
- The last season, the two squads battled to a 1-1 draw, at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium, marking the first tie against the Rebels in series history.
- Alabama started the game with a strong offensive performance, as Casey Wertz led the Tide creating three notable good looks for scoring opportunities but could not find the back of the net.
- The Rebels were the first to get on the board in the 19th minute.
- In the 83rd minute, Gabby Duca found the equalizer from a cross by Wertz.
- The squads continued to battle through two overtime periods, both unable to break the tie.
By the Numbers
- Statistically speaking, Alabama ranks second in the conference in saves (26) and third in goals scored (6).
First Half Force
- Through four games this season, the Tide has scored early with four of its six goals coming in the first half.
- Alabama has also outscored its opponents 4-1 in the first 45 minutes of action.
Overtime Once More
- After Alabama's season opening win over Tennessee, the Tide has forced a trio of consecutive matches into overtime.
- Dating back to last season, the Crimson Tide has featured 10 overtime contests out of 24 matches.
