Trojan senior trio Allisen Corpuz, Gabriela Ruffels and Amelia Garvey will finish the year on a big stage, playing in the 75th U.S. Women's Open at Champions G.C., in Houston, Dec. 10-13.Ruffels earned her berth thanks to her 2019 U.S. Amateur title. Corpuz and Garvey got recent invites as part of 20 amateur exemptions based on WAGR rankings.
"I'm super excited for the chance to compete again," said Corpuz, the only amateur in the field playing in her third U.S. Open. "I've heard great things about the course and it should be a fun week in Texas."
For Ruffels, this is her third major she has played in this year following the British Open and the ANA Inspiration.
"I can't wait to play in the U.S. Open this year. I've been looking forward to it all year," Ruffels said. "I got the chance to play a few practice rounds at Champions a few weeks back. The course is awesome and will be a great test. I'm looking forward to having (Coach) Justin on the bag as well."
Garvey is returning from New Zealand to compete in the tournament as well as to get ready for her senior season.
"I'm extremely excited that I have gotten into the event because the last two months have been so nerve wracking not knowing whether I was going to get the exemption or not," Garvey said. "Even though it's going to be my first competition in a while I don't think anything changes really. I have been working hard since I've been home and I'm ready to get back into it. I can't wait to compete against the best in the world and see how my game matches up against them."
USC's seniors will join four Trojan pros in the field in Jennifer Song, Lizette Salas, Sophia Popov and Annie Park.
