A county-run mass coronavirus vaccination site at Disneyland will close for four days starting Thursday, March 4, to convert into a drive-thru operation. It is set to reopen next Monday.
The Disneyland Super POD (point of dispensing), using one of the theme park’s parking lots, will be reconfigured for in-car vaccinations, which are set to begin next week, the OC Health Care Agency announced.
The vaccination center will be set up to serve eligible people who have placards or license plates to show they are disabled, officials said. Patients also must have appointments.
The original tweet announcing the plan, which was deleted, gave an ambiguous date for the closure, but county staff clarified Tuesday morning that the Disneyland site would close Thursday.
Health Care Agency staff also tweeted Monday that another mass vaccination site run by the county at Santa Ana College would reopen Wednesday after vaccine shortages forced it to close more than a week ago. It is meant for residents of certain ZIP codes in Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana that have been hardest hit by the virus.
On Monday, Orange County began making vaccine appointments available at smaller clinics specifically for teachers and other school employees, as supplies allow.
The first clinic launched at La Quinta High School in Westminster; another is slated for Capistrano Valley High School in San Juan Capistrano.
Walk-ups are not allowed at any county-run vaccination centers; appointments must be made through the Othena app or website.
