Even with the uncertainty that prevailed throughout much of 2020, the Nokomis Athletic Club was still able to put together an event that will help their athletes compete at their highest level.
On Friday, April 2, the members of the Arrowhead Open Committee presented a check for $23,635.87 to school officials from the proceeds of this year’s golf tournament, held Aug. 15, at Indian Springs Golf Course near Fillmore.
Over the seven years of the tournament, the proceeds from the Arrowhead Open have helped provide apparel, equipment and camp fees for student-athletes at Nokomis Junior High and High School.
This includes warm-up pants for the girls basketball team, travel suits for both basketball teams, a pitching machine for the baseball programs and cold-weather gear for the football team and cheerleaders.
The Nokomis Athletic Club also partnered with the school district to provide live streams of home sporting events, free of charge for the viewer via the district’s YouTube page.
“Because of many generous donors and golfers, the Nokomis Athletic Club is able to support all of the Nokomis Athletic programs. These large purchases, along with the many other smaller purchases, are made possible because of your generosity,” read a statement from the club during the check presentation.
With 40 teams playing in the 2020 event and $148,102.30 raised in its first seven years, the Arrowhead Open continues to be a godsend for Redskin athletes that shows no sign of stopping.
The eighth annual Arrowhead Open will take place on Aug. 21, 2021, at Indian Springs Golf Course. More information on the Nokomis Athletic Club and the Arrowhead Open can be found on the group’s Facebook pages.
