samasamp.blogspot.com
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI women's soccer team will cap the Spring 2021 regular season on Monday (Apr. 5) when the Jaguars travel to Purdue Fort Wayne for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff. Monday's match is expected to be broadcast on ESPN+. The Jaguars are squarely in the hunt for a spot in the four-team Horizon League Tournament, currently sitting as the No. 4 seed entering the regular season's final week. Head coach Chris Johnson's club is coming off its first loss of the year as the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 decision to Northern Kentucky last week.

Offensively, the Jaguars have been shutout in each of their past two outings, but defensively, have yielded just three goals all season long. IUPUI has yet to allow a goal on the road this season, having delivered shutouts at Detroit Mercy, Milwaukee and Youngstown State this season. The top four teams in the Horizon League standings following Monday's contests will play in the league tournament semifinals on campus sites on Apr. 11.

QUOTABLE
"I thought it was a well played game between two teams who don't give up goals easily. We had a good amount of the run of play, but couldn't find that final combination to put a quality shot on goal very consistently. I think we are 95 percent of the way to where we want to be and will work our butts off to get that last five percent before we play on Monday," Johnson said following Tuesday's 1-0 loss to NKU.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI is 4-1-2 on the year, having allowed just three scores and outscoring foes 6-3. Defensively, IUPUI has dialed up five shutouts and held opponents just 11.3 shots per game (4.4 on goal). Redshirt sophomore AP Woodall has a 0.38 goals against average and is a three-time #HLWSOC Defensive Player of the Week and the defensive core of Natalie McNally, Jillian Steinbrink and Grace Moore have teamed to form an impenetrable wall in front of her. Offensively, Pursey has a team-high two goals and Jessica Jacobs has two assists. Pursey and Elizabeth Bueckers lead the team with 19 shots and Maya Lacognato has attempted 10.
