BEAUMONT, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team opens postseason play Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they take on Northwestern State in the first round of the 2020 Southland Conference Women's Soccer Tournament hosted by Lamar.

The fifth-seeded Lady Lions (6-2-3 Southland) enter the conference tournament on an eight-game unbeaten streak (5-0-3) following Friday's 4-0 win over Nicholls in the regular season finale.

"We had a good finish to the season," said SLU head coach Chris McBride. "But there are a few things we would still like to tighten up on going into the conference tournament. We will break down our film and analyze it before Tuesday's game."

Southeastern returns to the conference tournament after a one-year hiatus. The Lady Lions faced Lamar in the first round of the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament falling, 3-2.

Northwestern State (9-3-1, 7-3-1 Southland) enters the tournament as the fourth-seed. The Lady Demons made it to the 2019 Southland Conference Tournament Championship game before falling to Lamar by a 3-1 score.

The Lady Demons and Lady Lions will meet for the second time this year. NSU defeated SLU in overtime, 1-0, in the third game of the season Feb. 28. Northwestern State's Hallie Field scored off corner kick assist from Kyle Nolen in the 97th minute to give the Lady Demons the win. The loss to NSU seemed to ignite the Lady Lions as they are undefeated since (5-0-3).

"The first three games of the season we were still finding our feet after not playing for 18 months," said McBride "We feel like throughout the year we have been able to get better one day at a time, that's the biggest focus for us, making sure each day we get better."

The matchup Tuesday is intriguing as the Lady Demons and Lady Lions boast the league's top two defenses. NSU allowed just five goals during the conference season while SLU allowed nine. However, SLU has yielded just three goals in the last eight matches while the Lady Demons have allowed five in their last seven matches.

Tuesday marks the fifth time SLU and Northwestern State have met in the Southland Conference Tournament with the Lady Demons winning three of the previous four matches. The two teams haven't faced off in the postseason since the 2002 Southland Conference Tournament, which was hosted by SLU. The Lady Demons edged SLU 2-1.
