INDIANAPOLIS – Tie breakers and three-set matches were a theme in IUPUI's 4-3 loss to Northern Kentucky on Saturday (April 3). Five of the six singles matches either featured a tie break of went three sets in the close match.
 
IUPUI earned the doubles points and Colton Morehart and Blessing Benibo earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 to start play. Sean Bailey and Ethan Mardanus-Budiono then clinched the point with a 6-2 win of their own in the No. 2 match.
 
Mardanus-Budiono then started singles play with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. The Norse won the next two points with a 7-6(7-3), 6-2 win at No. 4 and a 7-6(8-6), 6-3 win at No. 6. With the match all-square, Alex Jochim pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win for IUPUI's third point.
 
After dropping the first set 6-4 in his No. 5 match, Emil Jankowski forced a third set with a 6-4 win in set two. NKU took the match with a 6-1 win in set three over Jankowski.
 
Bailey took the first set at No. 3 7-6(7-3) but a 6-4 loss in set two forced a deciding set. It was NKU that came out on top with a 6-2 win in set three to take the match.
 
UP NEXT
IUPUI and Northern Kentucky will face off again on Sunday (April 4) with the match beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
