PEORIA (HOI) -- The struggle continues in Peoria to keep pools open due to the continual lifeguard shortage.
According to Peoria Park District, there are two public pools open in the area.
The Riverplex pool which is open to members only, and the Proctor Recreation Center that you can only get in with a daily pass.
The third public pool, Gwynn Family Aquatic Center has not been operating since summer began, causing the center to be the most effected.
The executive director for Peoria Park District says it has been tough keeping the Riverplex and Proctor Recreation Center open.
"At this point we barely have enough lifeguards to keep the Riverplex and Proctor Center open, but we have tried to combine the forces to keep those two pools open and try to maximize the access available to our community," says executive director Emily Cahill.
Meanwhile, other pools like Dragonland Water Park in Pekin have been fortunate enough to continue with their operations.
"" We've been lucky that we haven't had to miss any open swims or anything with staff, but staffing has been an issue," said superintendent of Pekin Park District Shawn Powers. "We have just enough, and our guards are working a lot of overtime hours to make everything possible."
Dragonland Water Park is currently still down six to eight lifeguards and is actively looking for more.
The Peoria Park District is working with local school groups and swim teams to ramp up on lifeguards for the next summer season.
