MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Farmers around Vermont will be opening up their farms and gardens to the public next month during the seventh annual Vermont Open Farm Week.
The celebration of Vermont farms takes place from Sunday, Aug. 8 through Sunday, Aug. 15.
This year there are 90 events at over 45 farms around the state, organizers said.
Open Farm Week gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at farms where they can learn more about the origins of local foods, take part in agritourism activities and build relationships with local farmers, according to the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing.
“Vermont’s unique agricultural heritage plays a large part in attracting visitors to our state and we’re so glad to see that this year’s Open Farm Week has more events that ever before,” said Tourism and Marketing Commissioner Heather Pelham in a written statement.
Among the activities are wine and honey tastings, yoga with goats, jam-making classes, on-farm dinners, live music and herding demonstrations, the department said.
