HUDSON — Waterfront Wednesdays will provide free family-friendly public programming on the Hudson waterfront every week from July 7 to Sept. 1, from 5 p.m. to sunset.

There will be musical concerts, dance performances, drum circles, boat excursions, educational programming and vendors.

Waterfront Wednesdays is organized by Operation Unite NY, the Hudson Arts Coalition and the Hudson Sloop Club, led by Elena Mosley, Sam Merrett and Adam Weinert.

Merrett, who is focused on the water-based initiatives, said the water-based activities are about getting people on the water on as many types of boats as possible.

“Everyone who lives by the river should have an opportunity to get out on it — that’s at the heart of all the water-based programming,” he said. “Sailing, visiting a lighthouse, these are often expensive and exclusive activities. At Waterfront Wednesday, it’s all free, open to the public. Come on down.”

The initiative began last summer and Merrett is excited about how the program has grown, bringing more boats this season, including a solar-powered vessel and wheelchair-accessible catamaran.

A shuttle bus will connect the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park with 7th Street Park, which is new to the program this year.

The Hudson Tourism Board and Common Council approved a $28,345 grant for the summer programming in April.

The program will also receive $4,000 from the Greene County Council on the Arts, now known as CREATE: Council for Resources to Enrich the Arts, Technology and Education, according to Waterfront Wednesday co-organizer Adam Weinert.

The Schooner Apollonia, the Sloop Clearwater, the catamaran Impossible Dream, the solar-powered launch Solaris, the Sloop Eleanor, the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse and the Spirit of Hudson will all be part of water-based programming this summer.

The Schooner Appollonia will provide free sailing excursions six times throughout the summer. The boat is dedicated to carbon-neutral shipping on the Hudson River and sharing the story of why transportation matters.

The Sloop Clearwater has traveled on the Hudson River for over 50 years and will be at the waterfront July 28.

The Impossible Dream is a universally accessible catamaran dedicated to raising awareness of barrier-free design and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through sailing. The boat will be at the waterfront Sept. 1.

The Solaris, a new vessel built and operated by the Hudson River Maritime Museum, will come to the waterfront on July 21 and Aug. 18.

The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society and Hudson Cruises will offer free trips to the lighthouse six times throughout the summer. There will be sightseeing cruises on the Spirit of Hudson every Waterfront Wednesday.

Operation Unite NY, SPARK of Hudson, The Literacy Fund, Larry’s BBQ, Ujima Community Collective Drum Circle, Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, Kite’s Nest Regen Program, Hudson Hall, The Maker, The Wick Hotel, Natural 7 Alchemy and Marybeth’s Monograms will all be part of programming in the park.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and performers include the Operation Unite NY Awards Ceremony, A-Y Dancers, Hudson Hall, Sondra Loring, Kaisokah Moko Jumbies U.S.A. Inc., RAWdance, BODYSONNET, Dual Rivet, Brett Miller and the Neon Moons with line dance caller Alex Udis, Band of Gold, Jeanne O’Conner Jazz Quintet, Brass Abbey, the Copake Quintet, Lex Grey and The Urban Pioneers and Trio Candella.

There will be a table in the park each Wednesday with information about the available programming.

“Simply come on down and we will help you sign up for an opportunity to get out on the water or maybe do a little fishing,” the organizers said. “All ages/genders/abilities/backgrounds/experience levels are welcome!”
