The Mountain View Pool will temporarily close starting Monday, Aug. 16 due to a shortage of staff to fully operate the facility, city officials announced Wednesday.

“We have reached a point where Mountain View Pool does not have the critical base it needs to stay open,” Public Works Director Steve King said. “The city plans to re-open the pool as soon as possible.”

Due to a shortage of staff, the city has cooperated with the Olympic Peninsula YMCA to assist with pool operations since March.

Port Townsend’s City Council “will be presented with a resolution on Monday, Aug. 16, that would approve this partnership agreement between the city and the YMCA,” King said.

The pool will be closed until the council and the YMCA arrange a sustainable long-term solution for future operations.

“The city and YMCA would like to thank Jefferson County Aquatics Coalition for their advice and support, as well as the patrons, residents, and visitors for their patience as we work through this transition of the pool on behalf of the community,” King said.
