MOUNT PLESANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan women's golf team will open the fall, 2021 season by hosting the A-Ga-Ming Invitational on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 5-6 at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Kewadin, just north of Traverse City.
"A-Ga-Ming is a beautiful place, and we have CMU connections there," third-year CMU coach Jim Earle said. "It's a small event, but we hope to really grow it so that it becomes a big kickoff event over the Labor Day weekend."
The Chippewas will welcome Oakland and IUPUI for the two-day, 54-hole event.
The A-Ga-Ming Invitational kicks off a five-tournament fall schedule that continues with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Sept. 26-27, the Eastern Michigan Shirley Sport Invitational on Oct. 4-5, the Toledo Rocket Classic on Oct. 11-12, and the Terrier Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford in Spartanburg, S.C., Oct. 25-26.
CMU will square off with several of its Mid-American Conference rivals at several of the tournaments, most notably at EMU and at Toledo.
"It'll show us where we need to work and how much we need to improve to compete in the MAC Championship at the end of the year (spring 2022), and that's our main goal of the season," Earle said.
The field at the Terrier Intercollegiate comprises 17 teams, many based in the south, giving the Chippewas an idea of where they stack up nationally.
"We're excited for the Wofford event," Earle said. "Hopefully we're playing our best golf by then. We're going to see a lot of different golf bags out there and that's always a positive thing. It will be a completely different set of opponents from what we usually see and there will be some really strong southern teams in the field. It'll be exciting to see how we stack up against them."
