Din Tai Fung’s Original US Location in Arcadia to Close After 20 Years - Eater LA

samasamp.blogspot.com

The first United States-based location of iconic Taiwanese chain Din Tai Fung will close in Arcadia on June 11. The news was first reported on the company’s Instagram account.

Din Tai Fung is among the most famous dumpling chain restaurants, with locations all across the world. In recent decades the company has pushed further into America, opening multiple locations first in Southern California and, later, into Las Vegas and Seattle, Washington. The relatively small Arcadia location was the first, though, even expanding into a second small space in the same shopping plaza after years of lines and hours-long waits.

More recently the restaurant worked to create a new flagship location at the nearby Westfield Santa Anita mall, a showy affair with dim lighting and lots of dark wood. The original location further south on Baldwin Avenue was reduced in menu options and size, in an effort to push customers to the bigger, newer 2016 location.

Now ownership says the original space will go away altogether, citing the “current economic climate” for the decision to close. The Santa Anita location will remain open, as will others across greater Los Angeles; the original Arcadia location’s last day is tomorrow. Din Tai Fung also operates in the Americana at Brand in Glendale, Westfield Century City, and Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza.
