National chain bakery Nothing Bundt Cakes has closed two San Gabriel Valley locations temporarily after staff there tested positive for the coronavirus. The franchise company, based in Texas, temporarily suspended service late last week at locations in Pasadena and Rosemead; writer Kristie Hang was the first to report on the closures.
In an email auto-response sent out by franchise owner Ingrid Kuo, at least one employee at each location has come down with COVID-19, forcing the restaurants to close for an unspecified amount of time. Eater emailed Kuo for more information, but so far has not heard back. The company, meanwhile, maintains other franchise locations across Southern California, and has more than 300 locations nationwide.
Nothing Bundt Cakes is far from the first restaurant around Los Angeles to close as a result of the novel coronavirus. Last week a handful of prominent Orange County eateries were forced to close following outbreaks among staff there, and one person also came down with COVID-19 at Osteria La Buca earlier this month. Meanwhile, larger reopenings continue across Los Angeles County, with bars allowed to reopen under new guidelines last Friday.
