When restaurants started getting clearance to reopen their dining rooms in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, most full-service chains took advantage of the opportunity.
Those companies were hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 health crisis. When restrictions begin in mid-March, most attempted to shift their business to takeout and delivery, but some shut down entirely with the intention of reopening when the situation improved.
One chain, San Diego-based Souplantation, went out of business.
A few chains remain shut down, and some are still relying on takeout and delivery without their dining rooms. And even chains that have open dining rooms are still offering products they created to cope with the crisis, such as family meals, grocery packs, and alcohol to go.
Two weeks after California started permitting counties to reopen dining rooms, here are how things stand, according to restaurant chains websites and social media on June 4.
