Rising Starz Music and Performance Academy

With limited options available for children’s entertainment this summer, parents must decide how to keep them occupied.

Although some camps have canceled their programs, others are being run a bit differently. Despite this,  there are still a few options in Parkland and the surrounding areas.

Kingdom Training

Parkland residents can join a basketball training program coached by current and former pros. This includes intense drills, skill-building, and games to improve and maximize each child’s potential. Dates are June 15 to August 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended care options offered.

The cost is $275 per week, with siblings and multiple week discounts available. Parkland residents only can register to start on June 10. Visit kingdomtraining.com or call Steve Allen at 954-736-7796.

5678 Dance, Inc.

Children ages 5 to 13 can participate in jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, cheer, acro, lyrical, and musical theater at 5678 Dance Inc. Registration will take place at 8 a.m. June 10 at the P-REC. Space is limited. The program runs from June 22 through August 14.

The cost is $275 per week or $250 per week for four or more weeks. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early drop-off and extended care options available. Athletic Republic

A summer sports camp for children, ages 6 to 14 at the P-REC., participants will play basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, practice speed, agility, and more.

Dates are June 15 to August 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. $275 per week, and aftercare is available. Parkland residents only. Register at the P-REC, located at 10559 Trails End.

Art Paper Scissors

Art Paper Scissors is offering half-day camps every weekday limited to a maximum of 9 kids, so they can adequately space children out at tables. Throughout the day, children will explore their creativity through our art-focused curriculum. From painting to mixed media, children will be introduced to a variety of mediums and styles. Projects are adapted to the needs and comfort levels of all children.

Their hours are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for children ages seven and up. Children should bring a water bottle and snack. The cost is $35 per day. Located at 6654 Parkside Drive. Visit myartpaperscissors.com.

Parkland International Music Academy

Rock out with Broadway Camp. Students ages 5 to 11 will participate in a variety of activities designed to teach art, acting, music, choreography, and dance from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Then, they will have fun playing games, doing physical exercises, and Taekwondo. The activities and shows are based on two musicals, where children will sing songs, design, and paint backdrops for their performances.

First session: June 15 to July 10; Second Session: July 13 to August 7; 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Located at 7391 N State Road 7. The cost is $280 per week: text 561-542-6592 or email info@musicparkland.com.

Code Ninjas

Code Ninjas is offering both onsite and virtual summer camp opportunities, starting June 8, for children ages 7 to 14. The weekly camps have six different themes: ROBLOX Royale, Storytelling in Scratch, Build a Bot with Cubelets, Olympics with Ozobots, Intro to Python, and Minecraft modding.

Virtual classes are $179 for the week for one hour each day. Onsite camps are $249/week for a half-day (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) or $399/week for a full-day (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Call 954-500-2633 or visit codeninjas.com. Summer Theater Camp 2020

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and The Performance Project School of the Arts have put their resources together for a four-week virtual experience. To participate, students must have access to a laptop or computer, be able to use the ZOOM platform, and have space where they can sing and dance freely. Students will have the chance to study singing, dancing, and acting while rehearsing for a Broadway revue.

Session 1: June 22 to July 10, followed by a show week from July 13 to 17. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. The cost for the 4-week session is $495.

They are also offering a one-week dynamic, immersive virtual Broadway Intensive in two sessions for ages 10 to 18 for $200. Registration available onlineemail, or by phone at 954-414-6904.

Rising Starz Music and Performance Academy

Rising Starz Music and Performance Academy believe “The Show Must Go On” and has come up with a new way to allow students to perform. Their virtual summer camp experience will include acting, choreography, vocal direction, set design, costuming, and media production training that will culminate in professional video production of Grease, The Musical!

Various sessions are available for all ages from June 6 to July 25, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and ​for ages 5 to 7, on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. Visit risingstarzmusic.com or call 954-370-3308.

Coral Springs Museum of Art

Students ages 6 to 17 can experience live art lessons at their virtual summer camp, beginning on June 15. The 10-week program Zoom into the Studio offers opportunities for students to develop their artistic skills in an interactive and engaging atmosphere with lesson plans taught by professional artists.

The class runs Monday through Friday for an hour and a half, and the cost is $60 per week.

Mia Cake House

Mia Cake House is offering a virtual summer camp like no other. For children who love to bake, like to help in the kitchen, or watch all the cake decorating shows on TV, this is the perfect fit. Camp instructors are recognized cake artists that have created unique and original projects for this camp. Using an online video conferencing platform, in each of two sessions, children will decorate cupcakes, cookies, cake, and French macarons.

The supplies and tools needed to participate in the camp are included and are available for pick up or shipping. Campers must be 8 to 16 years old. Hours are 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the cost is $220 per one-week session. Visit miacakehouse.com.

Mizfit Summer Dance or Tik Tok Camp

Mizfit, a performance-based, non-competitive dance studio, is having weekly sessions of dance camp in a fun, immersive environment. Weekly sessions run from June 1 through August 7. Dance camp, including hip hop, pop, ballet, jazz, and more, is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and costs $150 per week.

Tik Tok camp, including Tik Tok trends, new dances, and more, is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for $100 per week. Contact Nicole Rosen at 954-471-6425 or visit mizfitinc.com.

Eagles Haven

To promote the mission of wellness at Eagles’ Haven, the center will be closed, and all activities will be virtual. Check the schedule for daily activities, like yoga, meditation, drawing, painting, kickboxing, and more.
