Rockland restaurants can reopen June 9; here's where to go for outdoor dining - Lohud

Expect dining in a (gussied-up) parking lot. Or by the water. Or possibly — if Nyack gets its way, according to Mayor Don Hammond — in the street.

Indeed, outdoor dining is looking a lot different in light of the coronavirus. Among the changes: tables spaced six feet apart, hand sanitizer stations, one-time use menus or in a QR code you scan on your phone. Plus, the wait staff — as well as you — will be required to wear masks (although you can take yours off at the table while eating).

DOUGHNUTS: The tale of two shops

Since the news came fast and furious last week that outdoor dining was now part of New York's Phase 2 reopening (it was originally scheduled for Phase 3), many Rockland restaurateurs are still figuring out how they're making it all work. But all are committed to doing so and ensuring the safety of both their employees and guests. Interesting to note: States guidelines say you can have up to 10 people at a table as long as they are six feet from another table, which is good news for large families or those who've been quarantining together.

For the most part, many restaurants are not taking reservations, but that could shift, as well as their hours of operation, as they see how things shake out.

Here's a sampling of what's open. Keep in mind, this is a partial list, so if there's a place you love (and have missed), check its social media for updates. And check back with lohud as indoor dining is allowed in Phase 3.
