Restaurants in San Mateo County can reopen their dining rooms “immediately,” officials say

San Mateo County has decided to speed up its reopening timeline, the city announced Wednesday, and will allow dine-in restaurants to resume operations immediately.

The county received approval at the state level to reopen on Tuesday, but didn’t announce what that would look like for the region until Wednesday evening. According to the order, a multitude of other businesses including casinos, hotels, wineries and bars, and cardrooms and racetracks were also allowed to reopen as of Wednesday night.

With this decision, restaurant dining rooms are now open in the Bay Area counties of Napa, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Sonoma, and Solano. Contra Costa County expects to resume indoor dining on July 1, and San Francisco will reopen dining rooms on July 13, though SF officials say they’re working to gain state permission to move that date up. Elsewhere in the Bay Area, Santa Clara County has yet to set an indoor date, and sit-down service is allowed outdoors only — the same is true for Marin County, which has been open for outdoor dining since June 1. Alameda County will launch outdoor dining on Friday, June 19, and an indoor target has not been announced.
