DURHAM, N.C. – Entering the 48th season in program history, the Duke volleyball team will welcome NC State Wednesday, Sept. 23 to Cameron Indoor Stadium for a 7 p.m. conference matchup on ACC Network. The Blue Devils will see game action for the first time since November 29, 2019. Duke will return to the court Saturday, Sept. 26 for a 6:30 p.m. match against NC State on ACCNX.

LAST TIME OUT
The Blue Devils concluded the 2019 season with a 12-19 overall record and went 5-13 in conference play. In addition to three newcomers, Duke returns 11 from this past season's squad. Additionally, the Blue Devils return seven of last year's eight starters in Mackenzie Cole, Lily Cooper, Lizzie Fleming, Gracie Johnson, Camille Nazor, Ade Owokoniran and Payton Schwantz.
 
AGAINST THE FIELD
Wednesday's match marks the 105th meeting between the Blue Devils and NC State. In the last meeting in Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke fell behind 0-2 before reeling off three straight sets to win 3-2 over the Wolfpack on November 10, 2019.
 
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
The Wolfpack come to Durham under the direction of new head coach Luka Slabe, who was named the 10th coach in program history in February.
 
NC State returns nine letterwinners from last year's 2019 campaign that saw them finish 11-19 overall and 6-12 in conference play.
 
2019 All-ACC Second Team selection Melissa Evans headlines the Wolfpack contingent as she was named Preseason All-ACC for the third-consecutive season. Evans is just 41 kills shy of reaching the 1,000-kill plateau. In 2019, Evans notched double-digit kills in 23 of the 26 matches she appeared in.
 
BLOCK PARTY RETURNS IN BIG FASHION
Duke returns its two top middle blockers from the 2019 campaign in junior Lily Cooper and sophomore Lizzie Fleming. Cooper and Fleming helped spearhead a Duke ranking of fifth in the ACC in blocks with 269 total blocks and a 2.38 block/set average.
 
Cooper led the team with 125 total blocks at the net (1.29 blocks/set) to rank fifth in the conference while rookie Fleming accumulated 114 (1.16 blocks/set) to rank seventh.
 
LET'S KNOCK IT DOWN
Duke returns five of their top six attackers from the 2019 campaign in Ade Owokoniran, Gracie Johnson, Payton Schwantz, Lizzie Fleming and Lily Cooper who combined for 1,007 total kills.
 
Owokoniran led the team with 296 and a 3.29 kill/set average to hit .223 for the season followed by Johnson (209), Schwantz (214), Fleming (114) and Cooper (147).
 
CAN YOU DIG IT?
Duke's defensive specialist and libero Mackenzie Cole returns for her junior campaign with 841 career digs to date. She helped spearhead Duke's defensive contigent to rank seventh in the ACC as she individually ranked fifth in the conference with 446 total digs last season (4.02 digs/set).
 
Duke also returns Payton Schwantz and Gracie Johnson who ranked second and third, respectively, on the team in digs last year with 266 and 208 behind Cole.
 
THREE JOIN 2020 CLASS
Nagel announced the addition of three to the 2020 class as Franky Harrison (graduate, OH), Georgia Stavrinides (freshman, MB) and Sydney Yap (freshman, S) came to Durham.
 
Harrison comes to Durham as a graduate student from South Carolina where she was a member of the Gamecock beach volleyball team the last four years while Stavrinides brings a wealth of international volleyball knowledge from Cyprus. Yap hails from from Plano, Texas where she played for Texas Advantage Volleyball (TAV).
 
BIGGER THAN BLUE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES
Duke volleyball players Mackenzie Cole, Ade Owokoniran and Kincey Smith recently spearheaded a powerful collaboration with the University of North Carolina volleyball team called Bigger Than Blue. Alongside the North Carolina's Ryan Shannon, the four student-athletes joined forces to start this initiative to stand united against social injustice in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
 
SHARE THE MIC PARTNERSHIP TAKES OFF
The Duke volleyball program is excited to announce the start of the Share the Mic campaign, a partnership with NC Central's volleyball team. Spearheaded by assistant coach Kellie Catanach Johnson, Share the Mic is intended to help increase the visibility of NC Central's program within our sport, provide a platform for their student-athletes to have their voices heard and form a partnership between the two schools to impact change for years to come. We will lend our social media platform to the Eagles biweekly on Tuesdays.
