AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas men's golf program will be well-represented at the 120th U.S. Open Championship this week at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, with junior Cole Hammer and Longhorn Legend Jordan Spieth set to compete. It will be Hammer's second U.S. Open start, and the ninth for Spieth.

Hammer, a Houston native, earned his second U.S. Open start by virtue of winning the 2019 McCormack Medal for being the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Hammer burst onto the scene five years when he became the third-youngest competitor in U.S. Open history at 15 years, 9 months and 21 days. At Texas, Hammer helped lead the Longhorns to a runner-up finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships.

Spieth, Became the youngest player since Bob Jones in 1923 to win the U.S. Open with his one-stroke victory in 2015 at Chambers Bay. The win made him the first player since Gene Sarazen in 1922 to win multiple major championships in the same year. He became the second-youngest Masters champion behind Tiger Woods with a four-stroke victory at Augusta National; his 18-under total of 270 tying Woods's 72-hole scoring record. Spieth claimed his third major, the 2017 Open Championship with his remarkable second-nine performance on Sunday at Royal Birkdale. He was the low amateur at the 2012 U.S. Open following his freshman season at Texas.

Spieth will tee off of No. 1 on Thursday at 6:56 a.m. CT with Patrick Reed and Hideki Matsuyama. Hammer will tee off of No. 1 at 1 p.m. CT with Matthias Schwab and Alex Noren. Former Texas All-American Bobby Hudson will be on the bag for Hammer this week.
