FAIRMONT–The Fairmont Aquatic Park is opening up today and will be open for the full season between today and August 27.

The hours will be from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends until July 16. After that, the hours will be 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day.

The Water Fitness Classes that will be offered this summer include Saturday A.M. Lap Swim, Early A.M. Lap Swim, Water Aerobics, Deep Water Training and Tiny Tots Swim. Tiny Tots Swim costs $2 per participant and free with a season membership and is designed for kids ages zero to six years to swim with their parents before the pool opens for public swim.

“It’s basically to engage our youngest or beginning swimmer in a safe, positive environment with someone they know and trust to feel comfortable in and around the water,” Betsy Steuber said.

The other classes offered are $3 per class or free with a season membership. The cost for a membership is $75 for anyone 18 and under. For a single adult, it is $95. For a family up to five, it is $175 and each additional person is $25.

There will be two known events hosted at the Aquatic Park throughout the summer. One will be sponsored by the Fairmont Women of Today on July 9th in which they will pay $3.00, half of the cost for admission, for those coming into swim during that time for all non-membership swimmers. The Fairmont Women of Today will also be giving Jumbo Freezies to swimmers at the 5 p.m. break.

The other will be hosted by Fairmont’s Early Childhood Incentive and Community Education and Recreation to give out life jackets that children ages zero to eight will be sized for and give opportunities for children to learn about water safety during mini-sessions. Life jackets will last as long as supplies last. The event will be on July 22 from 3-8 p.m. and will be free of charge. Along with the event, people can register for prizes.

This was made possible due to the money that ECI and CER received from a special Summer Learning Support grant of $20,000 from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation to provide young learners (ages 0-8) and their families a variety of learning opportunities this summer.

This year, attendance numbers, mask mandate and social distancing will not be enforced according to Steuber but will be up to the individual when it comes to masking up and social distancing.

Steuber said the thing that she looks forward to the most is being open for a full season, having things be back to normal, being with the staff and seeing all the different people coming to the Aquatic Park to enjoy the facility. She went on to say that there are groups that are recurrent guests that are excited upon arrival.

“It’s really great to hear the kids’ voices when they get off the bus and they’re screaming and shrieking that they’re so excited to come to the pool,” Steuber said.

Steuber’s overall message that she wants to send to the readers and the community is that it is a fun place to be, but also to stay safe at the pool.

“We just want to make sure that everybody can be safe, so they can finish the summer on a high note,” Steuber said.
