Tomorrow sees the start of the Bexley Open, A Challenger 3 level event with both men’s and women’s draw, taking place in the town’s Tennis and Squash Club.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament is being run under local entry restrictions, meaning only those currently based in the United Kingdom have been allowed to enter. Despite that, five players from outside who represent nations from continental Europe and beyond, are involved.
The first of those is Brazil’s Vini Rodrigues, who is the only non-Brit in the men’s draw. He is unseeded for the tournament, and will take on No.6 seed Miles Jenkins in the opening round.
Jenkins is one of 11 members of the world’s top 200 in the men’s draw, which Welshman Peter Creed heads. Connor Sheen, Joshua Masters, Curtis Malik and Tom Walsh make up the rest of the top five seeds in the draw, while 19-year-old wildcard Jack Mitterer makes his debut on the Tour.
World No.43 Jasmine Hutton will be the top seed for the women’s draw, with fellow Englishwomen Alicia Mead and Grace Gear, and Scotland’s Katriona Allen, making up the rest of the top four seeds.
There are four international participants in the women’s draw, three of which are seeded. Dutchwoman Sanne Veldkamp, Finland’s Emilia Korhonen and Italy’s Bruna Marchesi Petrillo are also joined by Portugal’s Sofia Aveiro Pita.
