Colorado will close its mass COVID-19 vaccination sites at Ball Arena in Denver and Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Adams County this week as the pace of immunizations in the state continues to slow.
The state shut down four sites — in Mesa, Larimer, El Paso and Pueblo counties — earlier this month. The two other sites, which opened in April, at Dick’s Sporting Good Park and Ball Arena will close on Tuesday and Saturday, respectively.
People will still be able to get COVID-19 vaccines from their primary care physicians, pharmacies, hospitals, local public health agencies and other clinics, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
“This will help establish a more long-term, sustainable model for vaccinating more Coloradans and for any potential for booster vaccinations in the future,” the agency said in a statement.
The agency said the closure comes as the state approaches the goal of 70% of adults having received at least one vaccine dose by July 4. The state also has seen a decline in new COVID-19 immunizations despite a brief bump from its vaccination lottery.
Almost 389,000 doses — or about 12% of all vaccines administered in the state — were given at the community locations, according to the health department.
