Golf fans are hoping for a repeat of the last time the event was played at Torrey Pines when the 2021 U.S. Open tees off Thursday. Tiger Woods, with a fractured tibia and torn ACL, staged an epic duel with Rocco Mediate in the 2008 U.S. Open on the South Course, with Woods birdieing the final hole to force an 18-hole playoff.
