The 2021 U.S. Open begins on August 30 and there's sky-high anticipation. On the men's side, the 2021 U.S. Open field seems to be more open than in previous iterations, adding even more intrigue. The bracket is still full of talent, though, as the last major of the season arrives. A Grand Slam title is in the balance, and some of the best and brightest will be on the stage on the men's side of the U.S. Open 2021.

Novak Djokovic, seeking his 21st grand slam title, is the betting favorite at -150 (risk $150 to win $100) at Caesars Sportsbook in the latest 2021 U.S. Open odds. Daniil Medvedev is the top challenger at +400. Rafael Nadal, who was +700, has withdrawn due to a foot injury. Before making any 2021 U.S. Open picks or tennis predictions, see what renowned tennis handicapper Sean Calvert has to say.

Calvert is the handicapper who called Stan Wawrinka winning the 2014 Australian Open at 60-1, the last Australian title won by someone other than Djokovic or Federer.

In 2019, Calvert took down a huge score on Dominic Thiem winning Indian Wells at 80-1. And earlier in 2021, he nailed both of his bets for the Wimbledon men's singles final: Djokovic to win three sets to one (+275) and Djokovic to win and both players to win a set (+130).

Now, Calvert has broken down the latest U.S. Open 2021 odds and released his coveted best bets to win it all. Head to SportsLine to see them.

Top 2021 U.S. Open predictions

One surprise Calvert is calling for at the U.S. Open 2021: He doesn't like the value of Djokovic at -150. The top of the men's draw isn't as deep as it would be without injury concerns. The absence of Federer, Thiem, Nadal and others weakens the draw considerably, and Djokovic is the clear headliner. Not only is he one of the all-time greats, but Djokovic is unbeaten and unblemished in grand slam play this year, winning all three majors.

With that said, Djokovic hasn't played much tennis lately, at least by comparison to other top players, and Calvert is wondering about his overall fitness and condition. He is the most likely single player to win the tournament, but the odds paint a dominant picture, and he needs to be in the best possible position to take advantage.

By contrast, there are superior values down the board, leaving Djokovic as a suboptimal value when forced to lay the juice to bet on him.
