Labor Day Weekend is back.
Oh, it didn’t go away during 2020, but like so many things it was hamstrung by the pandemic. This year the big events are back, so you can go big — and even stay home, if you want.
• Arts, Beats & Eats emerged from last year’s limited edition and will be back in full force through Monday, Sept. 6, in downtown Royal Oak with nine stages of music, more than 100 artists and more than 40 restaurants. Details at artsbeatseats.com.
• The Detroit Jazz Festival will go virtual for a second year, running Friday through Sunday, Aug. 3-6, with performances from the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center airing on Detroit Public Television (WTVS-Channel 56), WDET (101.9 FM), WEMU (89.1 FM) and WRCJ (90.9), as well as the festival’s Facebook and YouTube pages and the DJFLive! app. Full details at detroitjazzfest.org. Visit theoaklandpress.com/entertainment for an interview with Artist in Residence Dee Dee Bridgewater. Detroit’s Campus Martius Park, 800 Woodward Ave., will host outdoor viewing parties each day of the festival.
• The Michigan State Fair returns to the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi through Monday, Sept. 6, with animals, food, rides, music, the Shrine Circus and more. Visit michiganstatefairllc.com.
• Hamtramck’s Labor Day Festival runs free Saturday through Monday, Sept. 4-6, along Joseph Campau Street, with lots of music and food and the always-popular land canoe races. Visit hamtownfest.com.
• Detroit’s Cadieux Cafe hosts its first-ever Mussel Beach Music Festival, with 21 bands performing outdoors through Monday, Sept. 6. Call 313-882-8560 or visit cadieuxcafe.com.
• Rap hero Jeezy performs Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4, at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre, 2600 Atwater St., Detroit. Tickets are available for Saturday’s show, with Scarface and State Property opening. Call 313-393-7128 or visit TheAretha.com.
