Puma is close on an endorsement deal with popular high schooler Mikey Williams, a top-ranked prospect who is utilizing the new name, image and likeness rules, sources tell The Athletic.
Williams, who will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft, attends Lake Norman Christian School in Huntersville, N.C., and plays for Vertical Academy. A 6-foot-3 guard, Williams is seen as a legitimate prospect in the 2023 high school class.
The star scoring guard signed a deal with Excel Sports Management in July, becoming the first prep basketball player to partner with an agency to pursue NIL deals.
The NCAA approved a policy in June that let college athletes begin to profit off their NIL beginning July 1. Several top NCAA prospects across basketball, football and other sports have signed NIL agreements with agencies. Williams, who turned 17 in June, marks a high schooler able to utilize the NIL rules and earn an endorsement deal using his name, image and likeness.
