INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI volleyball team will open the Horizon League portion of its schedule this week when the Jaguars host a trio of matches over a four-day span inside the Jungle. Tickets will be available on-site for each of the three matches or by contacting the IUPUI Ticket Office. In addition, fans attending Friday's match with Green Bay will receive a complimentary IUPUI seat cushion, while supplies last.
On the court, IUPUI (2-9) is seeking a turn of fortune as the schedule turns to Horizon League play. The Jaguars come in on a six-game slide but have showed promise against some stiff competition in September. Head coach Lindsey Froehlich's squad is 1-2 inside the Jungle this season with a win over former league opponent Western Illinois and tough losses to Chattanooga and Toledo. The young offense has been problematic this season as the Jaguars come in hitting just .110 and producing 10.51 kills/set. True freshman Briana Brown has a team-high 2.83 kills/set while Allie Pogue is putting down 2.38 kills/set. Maddie Haines is next in line at 2.08 kills/set and is second on the team with 81 kills. Brooke Phillips (206 assists) and Darragh Dixon (129 assists) have shared setting duties this season with Sidney Veatch also seeing time.
Defensively, fifth-year senior Rhiannon Schuenemann owns a team-high 186 digs, collecting 4.54 digs/set. Brown is second on the team at 2.12 digs/set. Up front, Millai Madison has a team-high 32.0 blocks while Emily Alan has 26.0 and Haines has 20.0. The Jaguars have been strong on the service line as Phillips has a team-high 15 aces and freshman Addie Evans has 14. The Jaguars are collecting nearly two aces per set this season.
SCOUTING UIC
UIC enters the week at 4-8 overall and 2-7 away from home this season. The Flames own wins over Belmont, Bradley, Chicago State and Ohio during their non-conference schedule. Martina Delucchi owns a team-high 3.57 kills/set and 157 total kills while Morgan Kull has a team-high 252 assists. Defensively Jaclyn Oblena has collected a team-high 3.64 digs/set and Becca Oldendorf is tops on the team with 34.0 blocks.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY
Green Bay comes into league play with a 5-7 mark with wins over Abeline Christian, North Dakota, Northern Illinois, St. Thomas and Texas Southern. The Phoenix are 3-0 in true road matches so far this season. Alexandra Zakutney leads the Green Bay attack with 3.22 kills/set and Cora Behnke checks in at 2.71 kills/set. Calli Gentry delivers 10.23 assists/set and Abby Gardner is tops on the squad at 4.00 digs/set. Redshirt freshman middle Tiffany Paalman is tops on the team with 50.0 blocks, averaging better than a block per set.
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE
Milwaukee is 6-6 entering the week which includes wins over Butler, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. The Panthers have been strong offensively, hitting .242 as a team while holding foes to .215 overall. Ari Miller (3.59 kills/set) and Madi Malone (3.04) both put down better than three kills set and Rylie Vaughn and Kaley Blake combined to deliver 11.77 assists/set. Jess Grabowski is tops among the Panthers' back line with 4.29 digs/set and Miller has a team-high 41.0 blocks.
UP NEXT
IUPUI's next five contests will be on the road, including three contests next week at Cleveland State (Sept. 28), Robert Morris (Oct. 2) and Youngstown State (Oct. 3). All three are expected to be
broadcast on ESPN+.
