Preview: Duquesne at CSCAA Open Water Championship - Duquesne University - Official Athletic Site

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne's Molly Brennan (Pittsford, N.Y. / Pittsford Sutherland), Orla Egan (Sunnyside, N.Y. / Mary Louis Academy) and Emma Menzer (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) are set to open the 2021-22 season at the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Open Water Nationals on Friday morning in Lone Star Lake in Lawrence, Kan. The 5K event, hosted by the University of Kansas, is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET. 

In order to compete in the 2021 CSCAA 5K Open Water Championship, a swimmer must have achieved time standards of: 5:10.00 (500 SCY), 10:30.00 (1,000 SCY) and 18:00.00 (1,650 SCY). Seventy-seven student-athletes from 21 NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III schools are set to take part at the event. 

Menzer enters her third season with the Dukes, helping Duquesne to a second-place finish at the A-10 Championship last season following a third-place showing in 2020. The Newark, Del. native took home silver in the 400 IM at the A-10 meet last season. In addition, she was part of the Dukes' bronze medal-winning 800-yard freestyle relay performance last season while also posting a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard IM and seventh-place mark in the 1,650-yard freestyle. 

Brennan enters her sophomore season at Duquesne after helping the Dukes to a second-place A-10 mark last season. She too was part of the Dukes' 800-yard freestyle relay team which recorded a bronze-medal finish. Brennan added a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle along with a 16th-place performance in the 1,650-yard free to cap her freshman campaign on the Bluff. 

Egan begins her collegiate career with the Dukes at the CSCAA Open Water National Championship. The Sunnyside, N.Y. native set school records in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free at The Mary Louis Academy. She was a National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) All-American as well as a USA Scholastic All-American, serving as a team captain for the Hilltoppers. 

The Duquesne divers open the 2021-22 campaign at the Pitt Diving Invitational on Friday, Oct. 1 at Trees Pool in Oakland. The Dukes host the annual team pentathlon on Saturday, Oct. 2 before kicking off the season as a full squad on Saturday, Oct. 16 hosting James Madison at 11 a.m. at Towers Pool.
