TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team is headed to Roland, Ark., to compete at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, which will take place Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 18-20, and have live coverage throughout on the Golf Channel.
The event, which will be held at the par 72, 7,500-yard Alotian Golf Club, features 54 holes of stroke play across the first two days which will set the table for Wednesday's final round of match play.
The Lineup
- Alabama will be led by the trio of JP Cave, Canon Claycomb, Tyler Lipscomb and Thomas Ponder, who have been in the Tide's starting lineup in each of the team's four events this fall
- Dillon West rounds out the five-man lineup
- Ponder (69.50) leads the team in stroke average and is one of four golfers on the squad to average below 71.00 per round, joining Cave (70.17), West (70.33) and Claycomb (70.50)
- Cave finished 3-1 at last week's SEC Match Play event, which included winning three straight to close out the tournament, while Claycomb closed with a 2-1-1 record
- Lipscomb and Ponder both finished SEC Match Play 2-2
Television Info
- Golf Channell will provide live broadcasts on each day of official tournament play: Monday: 3-6 p.m. CT, Tuesday: 2-5 p.m. CT and Wednesday: 2-5 p.m. CT
- The nightly encore broadcast schedule will be determined closer to the tournament
Tournament Preview
- The Cup is named in memory of the late Augusta National Chairman, Jackson T. Stephens
- The tournament will feature NCAA Division I National Championship-contending men's and women's teams
- The format will be 54 holes of stroke play setting the field for a final day of match play based on the stroke-play team finish and will also recognize a 54-hole stroke play medalist honoree
- In addition to Alabama, the six-team field on the men's side includes No. 2 Arkansas, No. 14 Notre Dame Arizona, Florida State and San Diego State
Last Time Out
- Alabama rallied after a first-round loss to take home three-straight match play victories at SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate
- UA finished with a 3-1 overall mark across the three-day event and was as one of just four teams in the 14-team field to end play with at least three victories
- Every member of the Tide's lineup picked up at least two wins
